About Hope Hall

Hope Hall is the only school in Rochester to offer the Mastery in Learning Program© which teaches the New York State curriculum in a non-traditional way. Strategies are designed to meet the needs of students who have experienced frustration and failure in traditional classroom settings. It is an opportunity for "at-risk" or "educationally stranded" kids to become successful, lifelong learners. Content and study skills are constantly reviewed and reinforced so that students achieve high levels of mastery, not only at Hope Hall, but also in traditionally taught classes in high schools and beyond.

At Hope Hall all students experience success in both academics and in extra-curricular activities. Class size is limited to 12 students; our small setting providing a comfortable environment where teachers can easily monitor vital self-esteem signs and give extra encouragement and support when needed. Students at Hope Hall are involved in a wide range of physical activity/exercise programs designed to promote fitness. We offer no-cut team sports with opportunities for students to participate regardless of ability. The emphasis is on teamwork rather than competition.

Hope Hall offers courses in music and art. Teaching in these areas is geared to encourage experimentation, freedom of expression, imagination, and a lifelong interest in and appreciation of the arts.

Our students have access to a fully equipped, multi-service library, and can further broaden their horizons through classwork in foreign language (Spanish) and computer technology.

Hope Hall works in partnership with Junior Achievement, a program which shows our students how to apply classroom learning to real world experience.

All teachers at Hope Hall are New York State certified and along with support personnel, specially trained in Mastery in Learning© methods. The entire staff is committed to providing total quality management for Hope Hall, its students and families. Our alternative school is fully accredited and chartered by the New York State Board of Regents.
