Alumni Corner: April 2006

Ethan Friends, Hope Hall class of 2003, is currently a high school junior in Naples. He is involved in varsity bowling, the golf team, and is taking boxing lessons. This winter he had a job at Hunt Hollow teaching snowboarding and skiing. In Naples, he is taking tech classes in architectural design, CAD drawing, and engineering. He has been on the honor roll all 3 quarters during this school year. He loves American History (a man after Sr. Diana’s heart) and is looking into Alfred State and other colleges. Ethan made a point of saying he really misses everyone at Hope Hall and thinks about us often. We miss you too, Ethan, and are very proud of you.

The following is a wonderful story about how our community continues to grow and be strengthened, even when our alumni are not physically present at Hope Hall.

Ben Scott-Dutcher, class of 2004, wanted to do something for the students and staff of Hope Hall. He saw The Lion King this summer with his family and told his father, “I know exactly what I want to do.” Ben had some money saved from when he was a baby. He asked his parents if he could use the money to purchase tickets for all the students and staff of Hope Hall to see The Lion King when it came to Rochester. Bursting with pride, his parents agreed, and Ben’s dad helped to organize the event. On Sunday, March 26th, 80 students and 15 staff saw the magnificent performance of The Lion King, thanks to Ben. In addition, many family members of students and staff were able to see the play at reduced prices because Mr. Dutcher purchased the tickets at a group rate. This tremendous act of generosity enabled many of us who would never have been able to see this amazing musical to enjoy an evening we will never forget. It is a real testimony to Ben’s love for Hope Hall, his sense of community, and the spirit of selfless giving which he’s learned from his family.

Ben is currently in the 10th grade at East High School. He is a member of the Junior ROTC program and is applying to enter the Fire Academy at East High next year. Ben, Thank you so much!

We encourage all of Hope Hall’s graduates to let Sr. Diana or Mrs. Tronolone know what’s going on. Some information would be:

  • Are you in college now or have you graduated?
  • Where are you working?
  • Are you married?
  • If you are in high school, how are you doing?
  • Have you won any awards or received any honors?
  • Is there anything else you’d like us to know or celebrate about you?

Don’t be shy – you have a lot to be proud of!
