WINTER REMINDERS
It’s time to remind everyone that students need to come to school dressed for winter. Students go outside each day for recess unless it’s raining or the wind chill is below 22 degrees F. The cold, fresh air actually refreshes the children and kills many germs. However, students need to wear boots, mittens or gloves, and have a hat or hood for their heads. If boots are something your child refuses to wear, then send an old pair of sneakers and extra pair of socks to school. Students need to keep their feet dry. Girls who wear skirts should have a pair of slacks or jeans to cover their legs. Younger children should also bring an extra pair of slacks or jeans to put on over their school pants.
Thank you to Volunteers
Special thanks to the following volunteers who helped with the New York State 5th Grade Social Studies tests given in November: Carl and Diane Romeo, Jim O’Leary, Jean and Jerry Lafferty, and Rosemary Ferrante. The fifth grade students were so grateful for your presence and your support during the testing.
Reaching Out to Others
The Rotary youth Service Club at Hope Hall with the help of the entire school community, got together 15 large boxes of canned goods, cereal, rice and baby food to be distributed to St. Martin’s Soup Kitchen for their food cupboard. With the help of Mr. Bill Witt, President of the Rochester A.M. Rotary Club, Sr. Diana and the Hope Hall Rotary Youth Service Club delivered the food, along with toys and new sweatshirts and t-shirts, to St. Martin’s. The students decided to make this a year-long project, since people experiencing hard times need help all year long, not just at the holidays. If you are shopping and can pick up an extra non-perishable food item or two, we’d love to have your help.
REMINDER
SNOW CLOSINGS
1.If the City of Rochester closes school due to snow, Hope Hall will be closed.
2.If Gates-Chili closes, Hope Hall will also close because it means the weather in Gates makes it too dangerous for the children to come to school.
3.If the district you live in closes, they will NOT send buses to pick up your child even if Gates-Chili has not closed schools.
4.If Hope Hall is open and the district in which you live has closed schools; you have to make a prudent decision. If it’s possible for you to bring your child to school, please do so. If it’s too dangerous, or if you have no way of getting your child here, call school to let us know and keep him/her home.
5.In case of bad weather, we will list our school closing by 6:00 AM on the following stations:
RADIO AM:
WHAM 1180
RADIO FM:
WBEE (92.5) WPXY (98.5)
WBBF (98.9) WXXI (91.5)

PLEASE LISTEN TO THE RADIO OR WATCH THE TV FOR CLOSINGS. IF YOU DO NOT HEAR OUR SCHOOL’S NAME, THEN WE ARE NOT CLOSED.
Hope Hall Council Update
The Hope Hall Council recently unveiled their “Declaration of Independence” poster for the front hall, displaying the names of the 138 students, faculty and staff, volunteers, and family members who have signed the Hope Hall Pledge to use only appropriate language. Signing the pledge does not necessarily means that you are in the habit of swearing or using bad language. It means that you will be very conscientious of the words you use and effect they have on everyone, and you will support our students in their efforts to stamp out and overcome violent language. Hope Hall has recently received four generous donations, which are earmarked for the purchase of special t-shirts displaying the winning campaign slogan. Soon this t-shirt will become a part of the Hope Hall dress code for everyone who maintains their pledge to use positive, non-violent words.
