The purpose of the dress code is to help students look professional as competent learners.

When students wear play clothes to school, it detracts from the focus of learning. This official dress code for Hope Hall was discussed and approved at a meeting of parents and students. Our school colors are Teal and Black.

Dress Code for Girls Grades 2-12

SLACKS: GIRLS must wear BLACK OR NAVY BLUE dress slacks. Girls in grades 9-12 may wear khaki colored dress slacks.

NOT ALLOWED: Sweat pants, jeans, tight-fitting spandex pants or pants that sit below the waist. Decorations, stripes, or designs are not allowed. Large belts and large belt buckles are not allowed.

SHORTS: Girls may wear black or navy blue walking shorts, knee-length or capri style pants, on hot days during September, May and June. No stripes, designs or decorations may be on these.

SKIRTS: Girls may wear BLACK OR NAVY skirts. No skirt may be higher than one inch above the knee.

SHIRTS: All students 2-8 must wear the Official Hope Hall polo shirt. (Long or short sleeves.) The official polo shirt has three choices of colors: teal, white, or navy blue. These must be purchased through school.

  • In addition turtleneck style shirt (white, black or navy only) may be worn on cold days under the Hope Hall polo shirt. Turtleneck shirts may be purchased anywhere.
  • T-shirts only the Official Hope Hall T-shirt is allowed. These must also be purchased through school.
  • Girls in grades 9-12 may wear any color short-sleeved shirt or dress shirt with a collar as long as the shirt is not tight fitting and does not show cleavage.

SWEATERS: We are offering an Official Hope Hall v-neck pullover sweater. Colors for grades 2-12 are navy or black. These may be purchased through school. No sweater other than the Official Hope Hall sweater may be worn.

SWEATSHIRTS: Only the Official Hope Hall Sweatshirt may be worn. These are purchased through school. Absolutely no hooded sweatshirts or sweaters may be worn in school.

SHOES: Students may wear SNEAKERS OR SHOES, which are safe and comfortable. No high heeled shoes or flip-flops.

GYM: Sports shorts (cotton, mesh or nylon), any T-shirt and sneakers must be worn, or students will not be allowed to participate in phys. ed. class. This will have an impact on their grade, New York State requires students to have credit for physical education classes.

JEWELRY: Earrings which are POSTS OR VERY SMALL LOOPS may be worn. Long dangling earrings are not safe. The school is NOT RESPONSIBLE for jewelry. Do not send expensive jewelry to school. Rings, bracelets, and watches must be removed during gym classes.

MAKE-UP: Girls in 7 through 12 grades only, may wear light blush and/or light lipstick. Any girl wearing an excessive amount of make-up will be asked to wash it off in the nurse’s office.

NOT ALLOWED FOR GIRLS IN ANY GRADE:

  • Tight fitting “skinny” slacks
  • Tight fitting shirts or shirts with scooped necklines that show cleavage
  • Skirts that are more than 1” above the knees
  • Any T-shirt other than the Hope Hall T-shirt. Any shirt worn under the Hope Hall polo shirt other than a white, black, or navy turtleneck.

Dress Code for Boys Grades 2-12

SLACKS: Boys must wear navy or black DRESS SLACKS. Boys in grades 9-12 may also wear khaki colored dress slacks. These include Dockers, Bugle Boys or any style of regular dress slacks. No slacks may be worn below the waist. Slacks must be dress slacks and not cargo pants or athletic pants.

NOT ALLOWED: Sweat pants, jeans, tight-fitting spandex pants or pants that sit below the waist. Decorations, stripes, or designs are not allowed. Large belts and large belt buckles are not allowed.

SHORTS: Boys may wear black or navy walking shorts (knee-length) on hot days during September, May and June. No stripes, designs or decorations may be on these.

SHIRTS: All students in grades 2-8 must wear the Official Hope Hall polo shirt. (Long or short sleeves.) The official polo shirt has three choices of colors: teal, white, or navy blue. These must be purchased through school.

  • Boys in grades 9-12 may also wear button down dress shirts with a collar. Any color is acceptable.

NOT ALLOWED FOR BOYS IN ANY GRADE:

  1. Doo rags or bandannas on heads or around necks.
  2. No bandannas carried in pockets.
  3. No large crosses, skulls, or dollar signs may be worn as jewelry around necks, in ears or as belt buckles.
  4. All boys in grades 8-12 must wear a belt and have their shirts tucked in, pants worn waist high.
  5. Pants that are oversized have large pockets, or hang below the waste may not be worn in school.
