Computer Acceptable Use Policy PDF Print E-mail

The computer is an exciting educational tool, allowing our students to communicate, ask questions, visit far away places, research a variety of topics, and get the latest information about many subjects.

Every child will be working on the computer and/or accessing the Internet in the classroom or the lab. Every child will be accessing specific web sites that the teacher has assigned, or doing searches for very specific information. They will not be involved in “chat rooms.” When students are on the Internet, they will be monitored by the classroom teacher.

With access to the Internet, there may be some material that may not be considered to be of educational value, but we feel that the slight risk of this is far outweighed by the valuable information available through this technology. Although we cannot guarantee that your child will not access inappropriate material, we will take whatever steps we can to prevent it.

It should be understood that the use of the Internet is a privilege, not a right. We expect all computer users to follow certain rules. This includes:

  1. Students will be polite and act responsibly while using the Internet.
  2. Students will use appropriate language.
  3. Students will respect the privacy of others and will not trespass in or copy the contents of other people’s folders.
  4. Students will use the Internet to access only educationally relevant materials.
  5. Students will not damage the computers or disrupt or alter the computer network in any manner.
  6. Students will not transmit obscene messages or pictures.
  7. Students will not give out their name, address, or phone number.
  8. Students will not access e-mail accounts.

The privilege of Internet access should be taken seriously. Failure to comply with these rules will result in loss of access and disciplinary action and possible legal action by the school. Control of the technology will be the responsibility of the entire administration and faculty at Hope Hall. Immediate control will be the responsibility of the teacher supervising students using the materials.

Please read over and discuss these rules with your child. If you have any questions, please contact us. Hope Hall‘s Computer Acceptable Use Signature Forms are available in the Main Office.
